Geoff Theobald
Geoff Theobald has quite literally spent his life in education. He was born at The Groton School in Massachusetts and spent much of his childhood at Milton Academy and as a “lifer” attended all 13 years there. After graduating cum laude from Milton Academy, he received the prestigious Morehead Scholarship at the University of North Carolina where he also graduated cum laude. with a BA in History. He stayed on as a Tar Heel to receive his MSW before returning to New England to work in schools.
Geoff started his career as a middle school and high school math teacher in Connecticut. Soon after, he returned to his roots at Milton Academy where he lived in a dorm while holding many different roles, including Director of Admissions, Dean of Students, Academic Dean and a valued member of Milton Academy’s school leadership team, and of course a math teacher. Geoff spent 6 summers welcoming over 1500 domestic and foreign high school students to Yale where he ran the Summer Explorations, working with students to develop a love for learning and following their passions inside and outside of the classroom. He shaped and mentored teachers and future school leaders here as well. For 13 years, he was the Director of the Upper School at Buckingham Browne and Nichols School working with students and families to guide them during their high school years. And of course, was a favorite math teacher as well.
Throughout his career, there have been a few constants. Geoff has always taught math and students have always sought out his counsel for not only math help but also advice navigating the landscape of high school. Families, too, have valued his counsel and frequently sought his advice on how to guide their child. He has become passionate about helping students and families make sense of the Middle School and High School years.
A beloved soccer coach, he has coached at every level from kindergarten to through varsity soccer. His teams have reached the highest levels winning the prestigious Independent League multiple seasons as well as taking home the New England championship. Geoff is an avid golfer as well. He has coached the golf teams at Independent Schools as well as individual players. His favorite people to coach, however, are his three children.
With over 30 years of experiences guiding families and students, Geoff has a wealth of knowledge. As the parent of 3 children, Geoff has navigated both sides: parent and education and brings a unique understanding to the many facets of guiding children today. In his close to 30 years, he has counseled, advised and worked with over 1000 different families in many different capacities. As a beloved school administrator who always found time to teach a math class, Mr Theobald’s office was filled with students who enjoyed the benefit of his wisdom. Parent’s relied on Geoff’s calm demeanor to guide their child as well as themselves throughout the high school years. Over the years, families with elementary and middle school children sought his advice as well in an effort to prepare their children for high school as well as a guide for parents during these important years.
