Executive Function and Study Skills

The Philosophy

As students enter middle school and high school, the format of education is transformed. While instruction happens in the classroom, significant mastery of material and assignments occurs outside of the classroom. The workload and calendar of assignments also shifts to favoring those students who have an ability to organize and plan for due dates that are shorter term as well as longer term. For many students, this is a skill that requires direct instruction and significant practice. However, most schools lack the instruction time to adequately prepare students to master this important life skill.

The Approach

We work with students to:

  • guide them to a clear awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses

  • teach skills which allow them to learn more efficiently and effectively, thus capitalizing on these strengths and building strategies to overcome their weaknesses

  • cultivate an ability ask for ask for help in the classroom when needed
